TPF Status Report

As you may have noticed, The Practical Fibromite has spent the last few weeks in “hunker-down” mode. It’s been very busy around here lately, and I’ve been practicing my (admittedly lousy) pacing skills by focusing on a very limited list of responsibilities.

But things are looking up.
I resumed posting “Today’s Top Tip” this morning, and I’m working on some new articles – everything from expanding the notion of “self-care” to organizing a fibro-friendly kitchen. New recipes and cooking techniques will be added regularly, and “Speedy Meals of the Week” will soon be back. In short, the website that you know and maybe even love will be back to “normal” soon.

That said, however, I am planning a major website redesign. The Practical Fibromite is now home to a huge amount of material (71 posts, 60 pages, and close to a thousand tips), and the current structure isn’t as user-friendly as I’d like. Don’t worry: the site will still be boring and amateurish – but it’ll become a little easier to navigate. Please bear with me over the next few weeks as I test out new options. Your suggestions are welcome, too!

Finally, thanks for your interest and support. I’m sorry to have been away for so long, but it’s been unavoidable. I appreciate your patience very much, and I’m happy to be back here with you.

Practically yours,

TPF

I have had Fibromyalgia just over 3 years. The pain is more than I can take sometimes. The tgohhut of living with this for the rest of my life is just about all I can take. I’m 54 and, though I’m not young ..I believe I still have a few more years left on this earth. I’ve read up on the Do’s & Dont’s of Fibromyalgia. I sure have a lot to learn about this disease. I have a terrible diet & exercise program, that’s for sure. The pain is so bad sometimes ..I can’t even think about taking the time to fix a good meal, and I guess that’s the main reason for the pain. It sure was an eye opener .that’s for sure. Anyone has any ideas about what to eat. Also the worst foods to eat. I would appreciate it. Well nice to know to know this web site is kinda like a support grip. Sincerely Linda

        Hi, Linda -

I was diagnosed about three years ago myself. It’s been a complicated path, but for me it’s useful to know how many different things there are that I can try.

Diet is important in fibromyalgia. You’ll see different authors recommending different diet plans and specific foods to eat/avoid. However, very little of that is substantiated by research. At this time, the only food that I am aware of that fibromyalgia researchers have found to be problematic for us is monosodium glutamate. None of the suggestions you read about gluten or sugar or nightshade vegetables (tomatoes, peppers, etc.) have been tested on fibromyalgia patients under proper research protocols. Avoiding certain foods can help individuals feel better, and an allergy test might be useful for you — but that doesn’t have anything to do with fibromyalgia. [There are a lot of articles on this website about this issue.]

That said, it’s really difficult to eat properly — fatigue and pain play major roles. Try this page for some useful tips on quick, easy-to-prepare meals and ingredients: http://www.thepracticalfibromite.com/kitchen-pantry/recipes/speedy-meals-and-emergency-stashes/ Also, check out the information under “Kitchen and Pantry” — lots of suggestions for streamlining the process.

I love talking about food and diet, so if you have specific questions, please feel free to email me.

Best of luck to you. I’m glad you’re here.
